Video: Comparing cleanrooms and kitchens
This year’s µTAS Video Competition has been won by Enrica Rollo, from Switzerland’s EPFL, for her entertaining comparison between cleanrooms and kitchens.
An annual event embracing the lighter side of life sciences and chemistry, the competition is run by microfluidics specialist Dolomite and the journal Lab on a Chip, and supported by the Chemical and Biological Microsystems Society. It was presented at the µTAS (Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences) conference in Dublin earlier this month.
Rollo’s winning video showcased a recipe for a ‘Micropillars Chocolate Cake’, providing an imaginative explanation of how micropillar electrodes are created and used to monitor the passage of single cells. Substituting silicon dioxide, platinum and titanium for chocolate, hazelnuts and coconut, her entry saw a precise scientific process turned into a tasty treat!
Rollo was awarded for her efforts with a voucher for €2500 worth of Dolomite microfluidics equipment. She is now busy designing her new microfluidic system.
