Cosmo Bio AteloGene in vivo siRNA delivery system
Cosmo Bio announces AteloGene, a tool for delivering siRNA into animal tissues by local or systemic administration in mice and then efficiently introducing it into the cells.
When mixed with synthetic siRNA at an appropriate concentration and ratio, atelocollagen - which is a major component of the product - forms a complex appropriate for administration into the body. siRNA that is prepared this way is then efficiently delivered in vivo and introduced into the cells.
RNA interference (RNAi) is a mechanism where fragments of double-strand ribonucleic acid (dsRNA) interfere with the expression of a specific gene whose sequence is complementary to the dsRNA. RNAi treatments which inhibit the expression of genes responsible for specific diseases have been recently actively studied. However, the delivery of siRNA in vivo had become problematic as siRNA can be unstable in vivo.
The AteloGene siRNA delivery system is mediated by atelocollagen that is a solubilised collagen obtained by protease treatment, and transfects siRNA in vivo efficiently and safely with each local administration and systemic administration.
Features include: immediate administration to animals by mixing the synthetic siRNA with the product; efficient in vivo transfection of siRNA; the effect of RNAi persists for a long time; no toxicity; atelocollagen demonstrates high biological compatibility.
Local use of the product gelates in the body securely keeping the siRNA at the administration site. Systemic use does not gelate in the body but circulates in the blood after injection into the tail vein, thereby delivering iRNA efficiently to the whole body.
