Mercodia’s Total GIP NL-ELISA provides a chemiluminescent method for the quantitative determination of GIP (glucagon-dependent insulinotropic-polypeptide) in human samples.

GIP is an incretin — a gut-derived circulating peptide hormone that potentiates glucose-dependent insulin secretion following ingestion of a meal. GIP(1-42) (active GIP) is rapidly cleaved in circulation at the N-terminus by DPP-4 to yield GIP(3-42), regarded as a non-active form of GIP.

Mercodia Total GIP NL-ELISA measures active GIP(1-42) to the same extent as its metabolite GIP(3-42). Thus, the rapid degradation of the active GIP(1-42) form is not a problem for the specificity of the assay. Results are obtained even if samples are analysed without any stabilising additives.

The ELISA has a high sensitivity with a detection limit of 1.62 pmol/L and a broad measuring range of 2.7–1000 pmol/L. The kit has 100% specificity to the predominating isoform (GIP(3-42)) and requires a low sample volume of only 25 µL.
