Copan's M40 Transystem is claimed to be the only swab sample collection and preservation system that meets the quality control standard published by CLSI - Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute.

M40-A represents the first global standard for transport swab performance and demands precise performance from transport swabs when testing a range of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.

To comply with the new standard, the M40 Transystem had to meet certain criteria. Improvements in medium formulation and improvements in the manufacturing process were made to minimise the damage to the medium during sterilisation.

Improvements in the packaging to shield the medium and prevent degradation during the long shelf life demanded by the customer and improvements in the function and mechanics of the swab were also implemented to meet the standard.
