In the lead up to the BIO Conference 2006, delegates are being invited to attend Bootcamp, a series of full-day workshops being held around Australia on negotiating technology deals.

Run by lawyer Philip Mendes, the workshops are focused on global licensing and strategic transactions. Attendees will receive negotiation strategies, skills and tools training, specifically for intellectual property transactions, and using practical examples. The workshop will also look at negotiating financial terms in intellectual property licenses and strategic alliances.

"Knowing some of the things that are unique about doing deals with for example, Americans or with pharmaceuticals, is going to help you do better deals" said Mendes, who is a director of consultancy Opteon and knockout mouse producer Ozgene.

The workshops, which are limited to 28 participants per session, are being organised by Austrade and sponsored by the Committee for Marketing Australian Biotechnology (C-MAB), which is comprised of all state and territory governments, Austrade, Invest Australia, Biotechnology Australia, CSIRO and AusBiotech.
