Colman to address Sydney conference
Monday, 03 March, 2003
Cloning pioneer Alan Colman, the director of research programs with Singapore company ES Cell International, will visit Sydney in May to address a conference on prospects for stem cell therapy.
The conference, Discovery Science and Biotechnology, will be held at Sydney's Cockle Bay Wharf on May 15 and 16.
As well as Colman, the conference will feature Dr Andrew Fraser of Cambridge's Sanger Institute, whose work involves using genome-wide RNAi approaches to determine gene function.
The conference will present some of the latest research in seven broad streams -- genetic origins of disease, functional genomics, innovation and commercialisation, proteomics, genomics, SNPs in gene discovery and personalised medicine, and stem cell biotechnology.
Each stream will feature papers by eminent scientists from Australia and abroad, including Simon Easteal on genome diversity and disease, Deon Venter on arrays and expression profiling, Ian Smith on high-throughput automated proteomics, Robin Anders on protein structure, Deborah Rathjen on commercialising innovation, Rohan Teasdale on reverse transcription.
