Feedback invited on boosting commercial returns
The Australian Government has released a discussion paper - Boosting the Commercial Returns from Research - and is seeking feedback on the development of strategies to maximise our research strengths and improve links between universities and industry.
The discussion paper forms part of the government’s Industry Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda, which aims to improve the translation of research into commercial outcomes to help drive innovation, grow successful Australian businesses and research capacity, and boost productivity and exports.
Part of Boosting the Commercial Returns from Research involves the establishment of a Commonwealth Science Council that will advise the government on national priorities for science and research.
The discussion paper also details a number of proposals designed to ensure research efforts support the translation of research into commercial outcomes. These include:
- improving incentives for collaboration
- supporting research infrastructure
- improving access to publicly funded research
- increasing industry relevant research training
- improving assessment of the research system.
The business and research sectors are invited to respond to the issues and options raised in the discussion paper.
The deadline for submissions is close of business 28 November 2014. Submissions can be lodged online.
