AusBiotech is pleased to announce that the bumper special edition of AusBiotech’s journal, Australasian Biotechnology, is now published, featuring a sneak peek at next week’s industry conference of the year, AusBiotech 2012, as well as a feature on tech transfer and biotechnology in Asia.

Returning to Melbourne this year, Australia’s industry conference, AusBiotech 2012, will be held from 30 October – 2 November 2012 and is expected to attract 1,500 participants to attend the festival of events to take advantage of the networking and learning opportunities, as well as the investment opportunities at the fourth Australasian Life Science Investment Summit (ALSIS).

With the AusBiotech2012 national conference almost upon us, preparations are well underway to bring you a very comprehensive program. We hope to see you at this major coming event, designed to support the biotechnology industry’s growth and development and extend our sincere thanks to the speakers, sponsors and exhibitors featured in the pages of the latest journal, who have assisted us in making this event possible.

In the ecosystem of Australian biotechnology, the transfer of technologies from universities into the commercial world - better known as “tech transfer” – is playing a very important part. Despite the many challenges, Australian universities with the help of technology transfer offices (TTOs) are spinning out a swathe of new companies based on novel technologies. The journal features ten stories on tech transfer in Australia.

The edition also takes a look at biotechnology in Asia, the region of the 21st Century and reports on the past quarter at AusBiotech, which has coordinated six submissions to the Federal Government on public policy issues impacting the biotechnology sector, joined a new Council to represent Australian agricultural biotechnology and the AusBiotech national office has moved – from Malvern to South Yarra Victoria.

The journal is complimentary for members of AusBiotech and also has regular features, such as the AusBioSTOCK, an exclusive report from Baillieu Stockbroking’s Joanna Hill.
