New WHO centre in Sydney
Preventing and reducing non-communicable diseases such as obesity, diabetes, chronic lung disease and cardiovascular disease will be the focus of a new World Health Organization (WHO) centre at the University of Sydney.
The WHO Collaborating Centre in Physical Activity, Nutrition and Obesity, established under the auspices of WHO’s head office in Geneva, will contribute to policy and public health work on chronic disease prevention globally.
A particular focus of the centre will be the promotion of physical activity, public health nutrition, and obesity and diabetes prevention in developed and developing countries.
The centre will be based within the University of Sydney's Boden Institute and Prevention Research Collaboration, and will be directed by Professors Adrian Bauman and Stephen Colagiuri from Sydney Medical School’s School of Public Health and the Boden Institute.
