The European Patent Office has granted Norwood Abbey (ASX: NAL) a patent for its laser perforator technology, covering a device and method for the perforation of the skin for draining blood or administering pharmaceuticals.

The patent has been granted in Belgium, France, Germany, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden and will strengthen Norwood's intellectual property position for its Laser Assisted Delivery (LAD) technology. The company now has 13 patents around its LAD devices and at least a further 10 applications pending, a company spokeswomen said. Norwood won its first approval of a LAD device, for delivering local anaesthetic, in the US in January.

At the time of writing, the company's share price was 55c.
