ResMed (ASX:RMD) has launched a new online app to help patients using sleep-disordered breathing therapy devices track their treatment progress.

The company is initially making the free tool available online at its patient support site WakeUptoSleep.com and plans to launch an iPhone version of the app on 1 July.

SleepSeeker will let sleep-disordered breathing patients follow preset treatment plans or create their own, monitor their progress and participate in challenges with other users.

Patients using newer models of ResMed’s own airflow generator devices will also be able to view their own therapy data - including time used and any adverse events - and identify any mask leaks. Data can be transmitted to the PC via SD card.

“We know that patient engagement can be a powerful force in improving compliance,” ResMed director channel marketing Susan de la Torre said. “SleepSeeker engages patients by providing encouragement and motivation to learn about their therapy.”

ResMed introduced the new online tool at SLEEP 2013, the annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies. The company also used the conference to launch its latest positive airway pressure therapy mask, the Quattro Air Full Face Mask.

ResMed CDIs were trading 0.6% lower at $4.95 as of around 2 pm on Tuesday.
