Stem Cell Sciences receives DTI funding
Tuesday, 01 February, 2005
A consortium led by Stem Cell Sciences' UK centre has been awarded £1.2 million by the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to fund a program in drug discovery for regenerative medicine.
The consortium, which comprises Stem Cell Sciences, the Institute for Stem Cell Research at the University of Edinburgh, University College London Biochemical Engineering, GE Biosciences, Global Research Centre and the Insight Faraday Partnership, plans to develop high throughput cell screening using high density arrays of specific cell types derived from embryonic stem cells, which will be used to speed the discovery of drug based regenerative medicines.
The grant was one of three awarded to consortia of academic and industry groups in the bioprocessing sector, a key business area for funding under the DTI's Technology Programme, which aims to speed the translation of collaborative research into successful businesses.
