Monday, 02 July, 2007
The CSIRO's former CEO, Dr John Stocker, has been appointed as chairman of its board and two other board members, Professor Suzanne Cory and Dr Terrence Cutler, have been reappointed.
Stocker was CEO of CSIRO from 1990 to 1995, and the Australian Chief Scientist from 1996 to 1999. He is also chairman of Sigma Pharmaceuticals and a director of Telstra, Circadian Technologies and Nufarm.
CSIRO's current CEO, Dr Geoff Garrett, said he warmly welcomed the appointment.
"John has a terrific track record with CSIRO, where he was CEO from 1990-1995," Garrett said.
"He comes to the appointment with an in-depth knowledge of CSIRO, and a distinguished career in science and business. He is a wonderful ambassador for science, and for CSIRO, with strong business experience and acumen."
