Japanese liquor maker Takara Shuzo has stepped up its push to make a name for itself in the biotechnology sector by separating its bio-related activities into a new company.
The split, which was completed on Monday (April 1) as the new Japanese fiscal year began, has resulted in the formation of two companies, Takara Shuzo Co Ltd and Takara Biomedical Co Ltd, under a single holding company, Takara Holdings Inc.
Otsu, Japan based Takara Biomedical includes Dragon Genomics, a genome analysis center formed last year in western Japan.
