Translational Research Institute officially opened
The Translational Research Institute (TRI), a new biomedical research institute based in Brisbane, has been officially opened by the Governor-General Quentin Bryce.
The focus of TRI is to support the discovery and development of biomedical research and accelerate the translation of this research into better health outcomes for people.
TRI is a partnership between the four research facilities - the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute, the Queensland University of Technology Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, Mater Research and the Princess Alexandra Hospital’s Centres for Health Research.
Biopharmaceutical manufacturer DSM Pharmaceutical Products has been established next door, providing access to bioprocessing and manufacturing of products to a standard for use in humans.
Led by CEO and director of research Professor Ian Frazer, the development of TRI was made possible with through $354 million in funding support provided by the federal and Queensland Governments, The Atlantic Philanthropies, Queensland University of Technology and The University of Queensland.
