Speaking at the opening of the AusBiotech 2009 Conference in Melbourne today, the Innovation Minister Gavin Jennings announced that the Victorian Government will be relaxing the ethics approval process for clinical trials held in that state.

The ethical review process for multi-site trials will now only require one application for approval rather than separate approvals for each site.

The streamlining initiative is part of the $20 million Biotechnology Bridges program announced in the 2008 Victorian Innovation Statement and will start on November 16.

Mr Jennings also announced that the 2010 and 2012 AusBiotech Conferences will be held in Melbourne. The 2011 Conference will be in Adelaide.
