Brookfield Engineering Laboratories has released the TA-NTF Noodle Tensile Fixture for use with the Brookfield CT3 Texture Analyser. The fixture is designed to test the extensibility and tensile breaking strength of noodles, pasta and other similar food items.

Asylum Research NanomechPro Toolkit for nanomechanical measurements

22 April, 2015

The last several years have seen a surge in the development and use of techniques that enable the measurement of mechanical properties at the nanoscale. The NanomechPro Toolkit, from Asylum Research, is a collection of techniques that spans a large modulus range.

Micromeritics Accupyc II 1340 TEC gas displacement pycnometer

18 February, 2015

The AccuPyc II Series are fast, fully automatic gas displacement pycnometers that provide high-speed, high-precision volume measurements and true density calculations on a wide variety of powers, solids and slurries. Micromeritics has added a versatile temperature-control solution to the series with the introduction of the AccuPyc II TEC.

New structural variant of carbon made of pentagons

06 February, 2015

Researchers from the US and China have discovered a structural variant of carbon called 'penta-graphene' - a very thin sheet of pure carbon that resembles the pentagonal pattern of the tiles which pave the streets of Cairo.

Micromeritics ASAP 2020 Plus for materials analysis

04 February, 2015

The Micromeritics ASAP 2020 Plus integrates a variety of automated gas sorption techniques into a single, research-grade, tabletop instrument. The system is designed to provide high-quality surface area, porosity and chemisorption data to materials analysis laboratories.

Micromeritics Corepyc custom instrument for drill core analysis

19 November, 2014

Micromeritics has designed a gas displacement pycnometer for users who want to measure the pore volume of drilling cores without having to break off small pieces that fit into a standard sample chamber. The AccuPyc II 1340 was custom-engineered with a large sample chamber (a volume of approximately 2000 cm3) to accommodate a 95 mm diameter core of up to 278 mm in length, thus improving sampling statistics by eliminating the need to run multiple analyses.

Micromeritics products for assessment of lyophilised biopharmaceutical compounds

28 July, 2014

Micromeritics' TriStar II Surface Area Analyzer, AutoPore IV Mercury Porosimeter and AccuPyc II 1340 Gas Displacement Pycnometer are tools for determining the integrity of biopharmaceutical lyophilised cake.

Micromeritics Autopore 9600 mercury porosimeter

17 June, 2014

The Micromeritics Autopore 9600 mercury porosimeter comes in two models: the 9605 with four low-pressure ports and two high-pressure ports @ 33,000 psia; and the 9620 with four low-pressure ports and four high-pressure ports @ 60,000 psia. It has the ability to measure pore diameters from 0.003 to 500 µm.

Mecmesin Helixa Torque Tester

30 April, 2014

The Mecmesin Helixa Torque Tester is suitable for measuring low and medium torque variations with high accuracy and control on a variety of delicate or finely engineered products. Its sensitivity and precise alignment make it useful for testing high-quality assemblies such as those found in the cosmetics, medical, pharmaceutical and jewellery industries.

Harvard scientists create the hemihelix

24 April, 2014

Researchers from Harvard University have accidentally stumbled upon a shape called the hemihelix. While a related shape, the helix, is one of the most common structures in nature, the hemihelix is more complex and rarely seen.

Collision in pitch drop experiment

22 April, 2014

The University of Queensland's (UQ) pitch drop experiment marked a milestone last week as the ninth drop of pitch slowly collided with the eighth drop in the bottom of the beaker.
