Enzo Life Sciences assays and reagents for personal care product development

Health and beauty care product development uses basic and clinical research to develop highly effective ingredients for personal care. Enzo Life Sciences offers a large selection of assays and reagents that facilitate personal care product development and toxicity testing, including the following products for anti-ageing research.

Collagenases (MMP-1, MMP-8 and MMP-13) and Gelatinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) break down skin collagens contributing to ageing and wrinkling. The company offers high-sensitivity assays for screening collagenase and gelatinase inhibitors.

Caspases, in particular Caspase-1, -3, -7 and -14, are instrumental throughout the apoptotic process, which plays an important role in ageing. The company offers hundreds of assays, enzymes, inhibitors and substrates for Caspases.

Epigenetic changes, including histone acetylation, methylation, phosphorylation and ubiquitinylation, are an inherent part of ageing. They lead to silencing or activation of genes that contribute to the ageing phenotype. The company’s epigenetics products include Fluor-de-Lys and Color-de-Lys HDAC and Sirtuin activity assays, as well as acetyltransferase, methyltransferase and demethylase activity assays.

The proteasome, whose function declines with age, is responsible for maintaining cellular homeostasis through degradation of misfolded and expired proteins. Enzo offers a variety of assays, as well as enzymes, antibodies, inhibitors and substrates for ubiquitin and proteasome research.

Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) uses a dual-receptor mechanism of host synaptic vesicle proteins and gangliosides to enter neurons. Enzo offers a large selection of purified gangliosides. Also available are antibodies to SNAP, FGF and FGFR, as well as toxins from Clostridium botulinum, cholera and more.

Hyaluronic acid (HA), which has strong water-binding activity, is a common ingredient in antiwrinkle products. Recent evidence suggests that lower molecular weight formulations (50-130 kDa) may be even more effective than higher molecular weight formulations, possibly due to improved penetration.
