Cochlear has taken out this year’s coveted ‘red dot award:design’ for its Nucleus 5 System, a solution for people with severe to profound hearing loss.

Launched last year, the product combines a number of important technologies including what the company says is the world’s thinnest and strongest implant, a new sound processor with features including automotive phone detection and a system designed to aid with daily management.

“The Cochlear Nucleus 5 is our fifth generation implant and our eighth generation sound processor, developed in close collaboration with professionals, candidates and recipients from around the world,” Cochlear CEO Chris Roberts said.

Established in 1955 the red dot awards are considered amongst the most prestigious in the world, awarding in the three categories of product design/design team, communications design and design concept. Last year more than 12,000 award submissions were made from over 60 countries.
