Polarimeters

07 February, 2008 | PerkinElmer (Australia) Pty Ltd

The optical null principle, with automatic rotation of the analyser, is the basis of PerkinElmer’s polarimeters. This principle, combined with microprocessor electronics, results in an instrument which combines high accuracy and precision with simple operation. The operating principle of the Series 341/343 polarimeters ensures accuracy of ±0.02° for optical rotations £1°. The instrument’s automatic gain adjustment and selectable integration times allow users to measure the optical rotation of even stronger absorbing samples with high accuracy.

Acute respiratory disease test

07 February, 2008 | Oxoid Australia Pty Ltd

Oxoid has released a direct immunofluorescence test for the rapid detection and identification of human metapneumovirus (hMPV) in human clinical specimens.

Real-time transilluminator

07 February, 2008 | Life Technologies

With the E-Gel Safe Imager Real-Time Transilluminator, users can watch migration of DNA bands in real time when carrying out electrophoresis using the E-Gel iBase and E-Gel Pre-Cast Agarose gel containing SYBR Safe DNA Gel Stain. The transilluminator is designed to fit beneath the E-Gel iBase Power System and is intended for use with E-Gels containing SYBR Safe. Blue light emitted by the instrument is suitable for viewing DNA that is stained with SYBR Safe.

Microbiology system

07 February, 2008 | ALPE Pty Ltd

The Biomic V3 Microbiology System now performs semi-automated reading for all varieties of Etest (AB Biodisk) strips. An enlarged plate image with the Etest strip(s) and its drug-specific MIC scale is displayed on-screen. The user selects the appropriate MIC value, triggering an S-I-R interpretation. Etest results can be printed or transferred to an LIS. High resolution colour Etest images can also be saved for future review.

Automated gentle tissue dissociator

07 February, 2008 | Miltenyi Biotec Australia Pty Ltd

The gentleMACS Dissociator is a benchtop instrument for the automated dissociation of tissues.

Dietary fibre extractors

07 February, 2008 | Rowe Scientific Pty Ltd

Dietary fibre including cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin, pectin, rubbers and waxes can be determined by digestion with thermostable enzymes in foods and animal feeds. AOAC International (Official Methods of Analysis) has proposed enzymatic method 985.29.

Signal isolator

09 January, 2008 | Innovec Controls Pty Ltd

The ISCX1 is a signal isolator that accepts a 4-20 mA signal with an input impedance of 50W or 0-10 VDC with an input impedance of 1 mW and provides an isolated output signal of 4-20 mA or 0-10 VDC with an accuracy of 0.1%.

Virtual microscopy system for pathology

09 January, 2008 | Olympus Australia Pty Ltd

Olympus has updated its dotSlide digital virtual microscopy system which scans entire slides at high resolution and fidelity, making them accessible and fully navigable anywhere on the globe.

Digesters

09 January, 2008 | Rowe Scientific Pty Ltd

The mineralisation units of the DK series digesters are designed for digesting solid and liquid samples in order to determine the nitrogen/protein content according to the Kjeldhal method. Velp digesters are made up of an aluminium heating block which offers good thermal homogeneity, with a maximum working temperature of 450°C. The block's temperature is controlled by dedicated microprocessor electronics. The temperature probe does not require calibration since the electronics performs self-calibration every time the device is turned on. All of this makes it possible to obtain high test precision and repeatability.

Deuterium lamp

09 January, 2008 | Heraeus Amba Australia Pty Ltd

Deuterium lamps, hollow cathode lamps and other light sources from Heraeus are engineered for long lifetime, high precision and stability.

Pressure- and vacuum-resistant glassware

09 January, 2008 | SCHOTT Australia Pty Ltd

The Schott Duran Pressure Plus laboratory glass bottle permits safe working under vacuum and pressure and provides increased safety to technicians and security to contents. The pressure and vacuum resistance is from -1 to +1.5 bar.

Protein association and aggregation system

09 January, 2008 | Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (Oceania) Pty Ltd

Wyatt Technology's Calypso automated protein association and aggregation system enables the rapid, quantitative, nondestructive characterisation of protein-protein interactions in native solution using composition-gradient multi-angle light scattering (CG-MALS).

Pure water for clinical analyser laboratories

09 January, 2008 | Thermo Fisher Scientific

Elga Medica pure water systems can provide direct feed to clinical chemistry and immunology analysers used in pathology laboratories. The single box solutions have been purpose-built to power total pure water requirements for clinical pathology laboratories. The units are designed to supply either a single analyser or the total laboratory water requirement by feeding multiple analysers including dispense taps.

DNA sequencing platform

09 January, 2008 | Applied Biosystems Pty Ltd

The Solid System DNA sequencing platform is claimed to enable new ways of performing genetic analysis applications.

Rapid test for Campylobacter species

09 January, 2008 | Oxoid Australia Pty Ltd

Oxoid has introduced a rapid colorimetric test for the differentiation of Campylobacter, Helicobacter and Arcobacter species from other bacteria growing on solid culture media. OBIS campy is a simple two-test procedure that determines both Gram status and the presence or absence of L-alanyl aminopeptidase (L-ALA) activity within 2 mins.
