Claisse ICP-OES catalyst and sample preparation method

Claisse has developed a method to prepare catalysts and high silica samples by fusion for ICP-OES analysis.

The determination of metals in high silica samples by inductively coupled plasma combined with optic emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) is difficult to perform because of the efforts required to obtain the complete dissolution of silica (SiO2). A mixture of acids combined with hydrofluoric acid (HF), with or without microwave-assisted digestion, is always required to dissolve silica and to keep it in solution if one chooses to use the sample digestion approach.

The company designed an automated lithium metaborate fusion method to obtain the full dissolution of common catalyst supports such as zeolites and refractory materials, without the need for using harsh acids or extensive sample dissolution for ICP-OES determination.
