Blood banking test automation

10 September, 2007 | Australian Laboratory Services

BioTek Instruments has developed, in partnership with Immucor, an automated benchtop assay instrument for use in the blood transfusion industry. Manufactured by BioTek exclusively for Immucor, the Galileo Echo provides small to medium sized hospital blood bank laboratories with walk-away automation of tests such as ABO grouping and Rh (D) typing, detection/identification of IgG red blood cell antibodies, compatibility testing and red blood cell phenotyping for significant increases in productivity and patient safety while taking less time than other methods.

Fast PCR on any real-time cycler

10 September, 2007 | QIAGEN Pty Ltd

QuantiFast Kits are claimed to deliver faster results in real-time PCR. With time savings of up to 60% on existing cyclers claimed, there is no need for hardware upgrades. In addition, no PCR optimisation is required, even if using previously established assays. Kits are available for SYBR Green or probe-based detection in PCR, two-step RT-PCR and one-step RT-PCR.

Created for lab users, IdentiLab label software features a lab-friendly interface and hundreds of parts and graphics categorised by common lab applications, making creating legible, durable and accurate labels quick and easy.

High-throughput preparative separations

10 September, 2007 | Phenomenex Australia

Phenomenex's AXIA is an advanced column packing and hardware design that is claimed eliminates bed collapse as a source of failure in short prep columns. Using hydraulic piston compression (HPC) technology, several fundamental problems faced daily by preparative chromatographers have been solved: collapse, voiding or channelling of the support bed after packing - causing premature column failure; variability in bed density - degrading overall reproducibility; low and/or variable efficiency - making scale-up from analytical more difficult; and peak distortion or asymmetry - reducing the return on each purification cycle.
