Gas chromatographs

01 July, 2008

Varian has released its 400 GC series family of gas chromatographs and application-specific analysis solutions.

Phenomenex HPLC columns

01 July, 2008

Phenomenex has introduced a range of Luna PFP(2) (pentafluorophenyl propyl) columns. These bring together the advantages of Luna silica with the chemistry of a pentafluorophenyl for increased selectivity and reproducibility for difficult compounds.

Headspace system

01 July, 2008

EST Analytical has introduced the Markelov HS 9000 static and dynamic headspace system. It was designed with features such as the dual needle and horizontal rotary mixing to make it fast and sensitive.

GC auto-sampler

01 July, 2008

The Gerstel MPS PrepStation automates a wide range of GC sample preparation and sample introduction techniques. Liquid sample preparation, such as standard addition, derivatisation and extraction, is combined with liquid, headspace or SPME sample introduction.

Peak Scientific gas generators

08 April, 2008

Peak Scientific has available a range of gas generators designed to supply hydrogen, UHP nitrogen and zero air to gas chromatographs.

Turbulent flow chromatography columns

06 December, 2007

Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced a line of silica-based TurboFlow columns designed exclusively for use with Thermo Scientific Transcend Systems. The columns provide scientists in clinical research and pharmaceutical analysis the capability to integrate online sample preparation with LC-MS analysis. The TurboFlow XL columns enable researchers to reduce sample preparation time and minimise ion suppression, while providing faster analysis and more confident data.

Headspace analyser

05 October, 2007

The HT280T is a single unit combining static headspace analysis, liquid sample injection and SPME (solid phase microextraction).

High-throughput preparative separations

10 September, 2007

Phenomenex's AXIA is an advanced column packing and hardware design that is claimed eliminates bed collapse as a source of failure in short prep columns. Using hydraulic piston compression (HPC) technology, several fundamental problems faced daily by preparative chromatographers have been solved: collapse, voiding or channelling of the support bed after packing - causing premature column failure; variability in bed density - degrading overall reproducibility; low and/or variable efficiency - making scale-up from analytical more difficult; and peak distortion or asymmetry - reducing the return on each purification cycle.

Automated solid phase extraction system and sample injector

10 September, 2007

The new HT400E is a fully automatic solid phase extraction system and HPLC autosampler for unattended sample preparation and HPLC analysis.

Oligonucleotide separations technology

06 August, 2007

Waters has introduced two sets of columns for the purification and analysis of oligonucleotides. The Acquity UPLC OST C18 columns have been specifically designed to work with the Waters family of Acquity UltraPerformance LC products. The XBridge OST C18 columns are designed for advanced oligonucleotide HPLC separations. Both products are suitable for purifying and analysing synthetic oligonucleotides including siRNA, primers and probes, therapeutic drugs made by oligonucleotide manufacturers, diagnostic kit makers, government and university laboratories, and biotechnology companies.

Sorbent for solid phase extraction

08 June, 2007

Varian has introduced PLEXA, a sorbent for solid phase extraction (SPE) that is suitable for extraction of bioactive compounds from natural sources and biological fluids.

Multi-vendor compatibility for chromatography

07 March, 2007

Japan’s Shimadzu Corporation will collaborate with Waters Corporation in the US to develop software that enables the control of Shimadzu’s Prominence series liquid chromatograph systems using the Waters Empower chromatography software.

Preparative HPLC columns

07 February, 2007

Pursuit XRs Prep columns are an extension of Varian's Pursuit XRs line of high-performance liquid chromatography columns. Pursuit XRs Prep columns are specifically designed for benchtop preparative liquid chromatography applications.

Semi-prep HPLC columns

08 February, 2006

The Phenomenex Onyx C18 Semi-Prep 100 x 10 mm is the latest addition to the portfolio of monolithic silica HPLC columns. This format allows for flow rates from 5 to 35 mL/min with loading capacities typically between 10 and 20 mg. Onyx Semi-Prep is suitable for high-throughput purifications where impure samples and abusive ballistic gradients are encountered, such as in combinatorial library purifications. Also, due to the physics of the monolith, the DMSO solvent slug is well mixed, improving purification results. In addition to high-throughput purification advantages Onyx has very low backpressures and good flow characteristics, which allows for injection of very dirty and/or viscous sample.

Electronic nose sniffs out problems

14 September, 2005

An Australian-developed electronic nose, developed by former CSIRO/University of New South Wales scientists, now part of E-Nose, can instantly sniff out weak but unpleasant odours and generate an electronic fingerprint of the strength and quality of the smell.
