Oligonucleotide separations technology

06 August, 2007

Waters has introduced two sets of columns for the purification and analysis of oligonucleotides. The Acquity UPLC OST C18 columns have been specifically designed to work with the Waters family of Acquity UltraPerformance LC products. The XBridge OST C18 columns are designed for advanced oligonucleotide HPLC separations. Both products are suitable for purifying and analysing synthetic oligonucleotides including siRNA, primers and probes, therapeutic drugs made by oligonucleotide manufacturers, diagnostic kit makers, government and university laboratories, and biotechnology companies.

Sorbent for solid phase extraction

08 June, 2007

Varian has introduced PLEXA, a sorbent for solid phase extraction (SPE) that is suitable for extraction of bioactive compounds from natural sources and biological fluids.

Multi-vendor compatibility for chromatography

07 March, 2007

Japan’s Shimadzu Corporation will collaborate with Waters Corporation in the US to develop software that enables the control of Shimadzu’s Prominence series liquid chromatograph systems using the Waters Empower chromatography software.

Preparative HPLC columns

07 February, 2007

Pursuit XRs Prep columns are an extension of Varian's Pursuit XRs line of high-performance liquid chromatography columns. Pursuit XRs Prep columns are specifically designed for benchtop preparative liquid chromatography applications.

Semi-prep HPLC columns

08 February, 2006

The Phenomenex Onyx C18 Semi-Prep 100 x 10 mm is the latest addition to the portfolio of monolithic silica HPLC columns. This format allows for flow rates from 5 to 35 mL/min with loading capacities typically between 10 and 20 mg. Onyx Semi-Prep is suitable for high-throughput purifications where impure samples and abusive ballistic gradients are encountered, such as in combinatorial library purifications. Also, due to the physics of the monolith, the DMSO solvent slug is well mixed, improving purification results. In addition to high-throughput purification advantages Onyx has very low backpressures and good flow characteristics, which allows for injection of very dirty and/or viscous sample.

Electronic nose sniffs out problems

14 September, 2005

An Australian-developed electronic nose, developed by former CSIRO/University of New South Wales scientists, now part of E-Nose, can instantly sniff out weak but unpleasant odours and generate an electronic fingerprint of the strength and quality of the smell.

Flame ionisation detector

14 September, 2005

Selerity Technologies has developed an interface for its Aquachrom 'green machine', claimed to be the first instrument to use superheated water as the mobile phase for HPLC separations.

HPLC prep column packer

10 August, 2005

The Grace Davison Discovery Sciences Multipacker Series 2002 Instruments are designed to pack preparatory columns from 25 to 101 mm ID. The instruments are easy-to-use, high performance packing stations specifically designed for Spring Column Packing.

Charged aerosol detection for HPLC

18 July, 2005

The ESA Biosciences Corona Charged Aerosol Detector for HPLC is claimed to offer all-in-one performance benefits that refractive index (RI), low wavelength (UV), evaporative light scattering (ELS) and chemiluminescence nitrogen (CLN) detector methods lack.

Low bleed capillary GC column

16 March, 2005

Varian has expanded its FactorFour series of capillary gas chromatography (GC) columns with the VF-5ht for high temperature analysis, and the 0.15 mm ID columns for high-speed productivity. The entire FactorFour line, now comprised of nine phases for various environmental and industrial applications, offers a very low bleed specification.

HILIC columns

16 March, 2005

Hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) is suitable for separating and retaining very polar compounds that do not retain or have very limited retention on traditional reversed-phase packings. HILIC columns retain highly polar compounds with only small amounts of water in the mobile phase. These more volatile mobile phases increase sensitivity with LC/MS applications. Water is used as the strong solvent so increasing water content will elute peaks faster.

ELSD 2000ES evaporative light-scattering detector

15 February, 2005

Alltech's ELSD 2000ES combines universal detection capabilities with enhanced sensitivity for demanding applications.

Monolithic HPLC columns

15 February, 2005

Phenomenex has introduced its monolithic silica HPLC column portfolio, Onyx.

Preheating requirements in HTLC

08 September, 2004

Preheating of the mobile phase has been shown to be an important parameter in attaining maximum performance in high temperature liquid chromatography (HTLC)

Nanoflow HPLC columns

14 July, 2004

New Objective has introduced a range of nanoscale chromatography columns to add to its already existing PicoFrit and IntegraFrit selection. The columns are designed specifically for protein and peptide separations.
