The science of point-of-care diagnostics

08 October, 2008

Economical, fast point-of-care diagnoses are on the cusp of reality. However, before these disposable lab-on-a-chip systems become part of every doctors’ repertoire in Australia, radical changes will have to be woven into the Medicare system and pathologists are unlikely to relinquish their monopoly on performing these tests willingly. In this article, ICT Results looks at how close to reality the science of point of care is.

On-site, handheld DNA analysis

23 September, 2008

Researchers are creating automated micro-fluidic devices which can do macro-chemistry at the microscale. The lab-on-a-chip DNA analyser wll be able to complete DNA tests away from the laboratory in a fraction of the current time required.

Online rheometry comes of age

05 August, 2008

Rheology Solutions will be manufacturing an online rheometer developed by CSIRO Industrial Physics. The process control rheometer can be operated in an inline or online configuration and used to measure the viscoelastic properties of a process fluid in real time.

Cooling and heating

01 August, 2008 | Supplied by: Rheology Solutions Pty Ltd

The Thermo Haake EZ Cool 80 circulator is a versatile option for laboratory cooling and heating needs from -10 to +80°C. Its bathless design minimises the evaporation of temperature fluid during daily use. The stainless steel circulator is both quiet and robust, making it suitable for laboratory use.

Syringe filters

01 August, 2008 | Supplied by: Phenomenex Australia

Phenomenex has added regenerated cellulose (RC) syringe filters to its Phenex line. By removing particulates from the sample, the filters prevent build-up and blockage of chromatography columns and frits while minimising wear and tear on injection valves.
